Firefox Screen Tearing While Scrolling

If you're experiencing screen tearing while scrolling, it may be due to hardware acceleration either being on when it should be off, or off when it should be on. Here's how to check the setting and toggle it.

Settings


In Firefox, click on the hamburger menu that should be near the top-right, then "Settings". In the "Find in Settings" search box, type in "Performance". It should narrow down the results. Look in the Performance section and uncheck "Use recommended performance settings". This should make a new setting visible for "hardware acceleration".

Hardware Acceleration


Try toggling "use hardware acceleration" to the opposite of what it currently is, and see if that makes an improvement. Sometimes having it on can create issues, and other times having it off can, depending on your computer's hardware. Here is an example of what it looks like with hardware acceleration toggled on:
