Block Yahoo Mail Inline Advertisements
Aug 7, 2015Web and InternetComments (0)
Yahoo Mail sometimes uses inline advertisements that look similar to regular emails in your inbox. These are particularly obnoxious because they can't be deleted like a spam email and they sit there alongside your regular emails with a big, eye-catching thumbnail.

Look at this obnoxious ad pretending to be an email!

Use an Ad Blocker

To block these ads from showing up, you'll need an ad blocker extension or plug-in for your browser. If you don't already have one, you can get one from your browser's extension/plug-in page. I recommend µBlock Origin for either Chrome or Firefox. Any one that supports the AdBlock Plus filter syntax will work. If you're on Internet Explorer you may want to consider switching browsers.

Once you have an ad blocker installed, restart your browser. If the ads are still there, continue on below.

Adding a Custom Filter

If the ad blocker isn't blocking the inline ads by default, you may need to add some custom filters. You can do this in the "My filters" section of uBlock, which can be found under Add-ons -> Extensions -> uBlock Origin Options -> Show Dashboard -> My filters for Firefox, or More Tools -> Extensions -> uBlock Origin Options -> My filters for Chrome.

Add these filters (copy and paste them in) and then hit "Apply changes".

Be sure to restart your browser just in case.

My ads are blocked in Yahoo IE. However, I cannot extend my email to the far right because the arrow is gone. So I don't see all my email and have to keep spacing ahead. How to get the arrow back?
